SAFETY & HEALTH PROGRAM
KLB has been a family-owned construction contractor for more than 30 years with a well established positive and proactive approach to everyone’s safety. We utilize management tools such as the job hazard analysis; daily inspections, tailgate safety meetings; random audits; and immediate corrective action to continuously coach worker safety. KLB employee safety training starts with our KLB Safety Video, worker orientation and on-the-job training then progresses to more specific and advanced skills and craft training with frequent safety huddles to address task-specific hazards.
Our safety incentive program culminates each year with the KLB Annual Safety Awards Meeting. This motivational event provides generous incentive awards and presentations to empower and inspire responsibility, teamwork, leadership and pride in creating an injury-free workplace. Our primary goal is to maintain a dynamic safety culture with continuous improvement as our most important core value.
KLB has been recognized by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Washington, WSDOT and other organizations for important safety performance achievements:
Qualified as an AGC Safety Team Member for each of the past 23 years.
Received the lowest Washington State Worker’s Compensation Experience Modification Rates (EMRs) for a heavy highway contractor.
Won a 1st Place AGC of America Construction Safety Excellence Award in the Heavy Highway Division.
Received $2 Million in Washington State Worker Compensation premium refunds as a member of the AGC Retrospective Group Program.
Received recognition in 2016 for Most Improved EMR by 25% Top 9 EMR’s under .60 of .56
In 2017 qualified in the 2 million dollar club for Top 9 EMR’s under .60 of .49
In 2018 won Top Performer for Safety and Claims Management, Top 8 Experience Modification Rates (EMR's) of .49 under .60, and Top Performer for Maintaining a 6 year average EMR of .68
